Cooling surface
A cooling surface is used for cooling of outside air before injection into the building. A cooling surface can be an integrated part of an AHU or placed directly in an air injection duct.
Cooling tower
A cooling tower is used to remove excess heat from an air-conditioning system if the heat cannot be utilised for another purpose.
COP (Coefficient of performance)
Coefficient of performance (COP), is an expression of the efficiency of a heat pump. When calculating the COP for a heat pump, the heat output from the condenser (Q) is compared to the power supplied to the compressor (W).
Corrosion
Corrosion can occur on external and internal surfaces of pipes, tanks and radiators. In the design phase various issues have to be considered such as pipe material, insulation, medium, humidity and air purging etc.
Corrosion fatigue
Corrosion fatigue describes a situation where a metal is exposed to both mechanical fatigue and corrosion simultaneously.
COSP (Coefficient of system performance)
The COSP of a heat pump is based on the total heat extracted (also referred to as Q) in relation to the energy supplied to the heat pump (also referred to as W).
Crevice corrosion
Crevice corrosion is a localized form of corrosion attack.
Cross flow heat exchanger
A cross-flow heat exchanger exchanges thermal energy from one airstream to another in an air handling unit (AHU). Unlike a rotary heat exchanger, a cross-flow heat exchanger does not exchange humidity and there is no risk of short-circuiting the airstreams.
Decommissioning and disposal costs (Cd)
In the context of life cycle cost, decommissioning and disposal costs are non-existent or modest in commercial building systems.
Decomposition
Decomposition is the breakdown or degradation of complex organic substances into simpler substances by chemical or biological processes.
