Grundfos and CIBSE get to grips with tall buildings

The challenges faced by engineers in designing HVAC and booster systems for tall buildings was top of the agenda for Grundfos when they addressed members of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) at their UAE Regional Technical Conference on 1st November.

The CIBSE conference, held this year at The Westin Dubai, brought together CIBSE members from all over the world for knowledge sharing and networking on a range of challenges peculiar to the tall buildings that now form a central feature of many Middle East developments.

Proceedings got under way with a keynote speech form Raef Hammoudeh, CIBSE Chairman in UAE, that brought an international perspective to the challenges facing designers of tall buildings, which was followed by presentations by speakers from across the UAE and the UK, on issues including security, fire safety, facades and sustainability in the Gulf environment.

As a sponsor of the event, Grundfos was invited to discuss with engineers the problems associated with delivering and maintaining constant water pressure where very high heads are involved – in, for instance, sophisticated fresh water supply as well as problems related to HVAC systems.

A global leader in pump manufacture, Grundfos technical experts were able to call on experience and knowledge gained from more than half century of working alongside designers of tall buildings in the Gulf and across the world, to provide solutions based on the latest leading-edge pump technology.

Of particular interest to CIBSE members was the latest generation of intelligent pumping solutions, which utilize state-of-the-art controlling, monitoring and communications technology to react automatically to changes in supply pressure and can be simply managed remotely.

Discussions were far-ranging, with CIBSE members having the added benefit that the conference counted as part of their ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme.
