In Grundfos, the safety, health and well-being of employees takes priority over everything else. 


Producing, assembling and servicing pumps and products can result in work-related injuries and musculoskeletal disorders. In order to minimise or even eliminate injuries, we set targets for all production sites and assess the results at monthly management meetings. We are also constantly growing and nurturing our safety culture and ensuring the full implementation of safety policies across all regions.

Focus areas

This year, Grundfos focused on encouraging safety leadership and knowledge sharing. This included safety walks and corrective actions to ensure the continual improvements in our health and safety aspects.

Our results

Safety leadership was encouraged by placing a focus on safety during this year's Operations Convention, a forum attended by the top 100 leaders in our Operations.

Despite the increased focus on health and safety in 2017, there is still room for improvement. The number of reported lost-time injuries per million working hours increased 28%, from 3.30 in 2016 to 4.23 in 2017. The sharper focus on the issue has improved transparency, and created a better understanding of why reporting is important in preventing injuries.

We will launch Safety Management System in 2018 which will help us to identify more risks and prevent injuries from happening.

In practice: 1000 days without lost time injuries in Finland and Indianapolis USA

1000 days without lost time injuries

Our colleagues in Finland and Indianapolis recently celebrated 1000 days without lost time injuries. Lost time injuries (LTI) refers to an injury that leads to an employee being unable to perform regular work duties afterwards. 

Kaizen, which can be loosely translated to mean "change for the better", is a concept that Grundfos companies focus on. No matter how small the improvement is, we care about every possible opportunity to improve health and safety at our factories and offices. 

In Practice: Grundfos safety week                                        

 

More than 40 grundfos companies around the world participated in Grundfos Safety Week. During this week, companies organised safety briefings, evaluated the safety of their factory environments and participated in safety walks in factories to educate emoloyees about safety safety precautions and tools implemented.

In 2017 alone, over 4000 safety walks were carried out and a new Safety Incident Management System will be launched in 2018.
